Learning & Development

Why Choose ISS?

One of the greatest obstacle to business growth is having under-skilled human capital. When your workforce takes part in qualifications, learnerships or skills programmes, they become confident and more productive.

ISS adds real value – upskilling your most valuable asset, your people, through sector specific and highly customisable training material.

Training material includes current and relevant course content, as well as case studies that provide simulations of organisations or departments for added relevance, bringing theory and practice together.

We can assist you in the process of applying for SETA funding to grow capacity by encouraging development.

ISS has over 1000 accredited training programmes,
offered to a diverse client base across the following economic sectors:

  • Transport & Logistics
  • Warehousing & Distribution
  • Wholesale & Retail
  • Food & Beverage
  • Tourism & Hospitality
  • Manufacturing & Engineering
  • Mining & Minerals
  • Construction
  • Education & Training
  • Financial & Banking
  • Maritime & Aviation
  • Agriculture
  • Renewable Energy
  • Health & Welfare
  • Insurance
  • Information Technology
  • Governmental
  • Public Service Sector
  • Safety & Security
  • Chemical Sector

How It Works

4 Steps to implementing qualifications, learnerships and skills programmes:

1.

Your company belongs to a sector of the economy according to your industry, and is assigned to the relevant SETA.

2.

Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs) and Annual Training Reports (ATRs) demonstrating training and development plans and progress are submitted each year to the relevant SETA.

3.

If your training aligns with SETA scarce and critical skills, you can apply for discretionary funding, which can assist with training costs.

4.

Select any of our training programmes to be implemented in your workplace – you can upskill your employees, or you can choose to sponsor unemployed learners or learners with disabilities.

Skills Needs Analysis

ISS assists companies to do a detailed skills analysis of their organisation, which includes:

SETA Funding & Other Opportunities

We will represent your business at the relevant SETA to ensure your allocations for funding is done in line with Sector Scarce and Critical Skills and where funding is made available.

Financial Obligations & Tax Benefits

Training and Development can be a costly undertaking for a company. If planned properly the cost implications can be managed to a large degree. Obtaining funding from your SETA who is mandated to upskill within their specific sector as well as Governmental funding for special projects is always considered. Companies also benefit from deductions in their taxable income if planned properly.

Legal & Regulatory Requirements (BEE & EE)

We have a very sound understanding of the new BBBEE codes as well as EE targets. This is in most cases a strategic objective of businesses that we consider prior and during the implementation of training and development initiatives. Should it not yet be in place, we assist companies with such planning.

Synchronising for Optimal Benefit

With 2 of the 3 year ends being ‘fixed’ there’s a hugely important timing aspect to be considered. Typically, it makes sense to move your BEE year-end to end February or end April.

This alignment can afford you considerable benefit:

  • Improved ease of budgeting and reporting
  • SETA funding Application aligns with your BEE year end ‘BEE codes don’t penalise you for using SETA allocated funding’
  • Gain Tax reductions (pro-rata over 12 months, or 24 months, plus an additional amount on completion) by enrolling and completing the learnerships within your financial year

Implementation

During implementation ISS will be hands-on, with our subject matter experts delivering on the services agreed to.

This can include:

  • Analysing your workforce current skills set
  • Understanding your scarce and critical skills
  • Liaising with your SETA for funding opportunities
  • Compiling WSP’s and submitting ATR’s
  • Actual training and development of staff
  • Assisting with career paths within the business
  • Implementing a sustainable BBBEE (SD) plan
  • Aligning your EE plan to your required skill set
  • Consulting with your tax practitioners regarding tax benefits

Tracking Performance & Feedback

Obtaining feedback from all stakeholders and tracking associated performance is crucial to embedding Training and Development within any organisation’s business culture.

Although these interventions are almost always long term strategic interventions with far reaching Implications, we are able to compile the following Tracking Reports with the assistance of the businesses improvements/ deterioration of:

  • Business culture and communication
  • Employee productivity
  • Accuracy and quality of work
  • Staff turnover
  • Organisational succession planning and business continuity
  • Employee / employer perception
  • BBBEE and EE performance

Adult Basic Education & Training

Do you want to increase the confidence, skill levels and productivity of your workforce?

It’s a fact that a large number of South African workers in formal employment are not as productive as they could be because of low literacy and numeracy levels.

ISS ABET programmes are designed to improve the skill levels of the local workforce – by providing meaningful, basic quality adult education. These programmes can be customised to the learners’ needs. Emphasis is placed on real world interactions and problem solving with content that is easy to understand, engaging and fun.

Through ISS ABET programmes:

Learners are able to qualify for learnership programmes while progressing towards a recognised formal qualification.

Companies receive support in their efforts to implement workplace skills plans, in line with the Skills Development Act No.97 of 1999
